Kevin Hart – San Jose Improv and Laugh at My Pain

September 5, 2011 2 comments

About two weeks ago I was lucky enough to get two tickets to go see Kevin Hart perform in San Jose.  I was ecstatic because this is the comedian I have been trying to get tickets to see forever!  Every time he came nearby the tickets would sell out immediately and I would miss my chance.  This time, I got lucky and scored tickets to see him on September 2nd.  However this show got cancelled and instead I had to see him on the 4th.  That was okay but was going to make things difficult.  First of all, I live in Elk Grove, CA and the show was in San Jose.  I worked the 4th and the 5th ( today ) so I wouldn’t be able to sleep in after the show.

My ViewDid I care?  Nope!  I was excited to be seeing Kevin Hart in person and I’m glad I made the trip.  I actually managed to get to San Jose at 7pm, 2 hours ahead of time to our show.  At 8pm the line started to form outside the club and I started to wait in line.  Getting in I had balcony seats and  the view was great.  I have no pictures of the performance because I didn’t want to risk getting kicked out.  The opening act was hilarious and soon the main attraction came on stage: Kevin Hart!

Now I expected this to be standup from "Laugh at My Pain" and was surprised when he said it was all new stuff.  I was laughing so hard at his set and the best part came when someone tried to throw him off his game.  During one of the jokes an audience member made a loud "ahhhh."  Relating to Kevin Hart which he acknowledged.  It was funny the first time and even Kevin Hart laughed.  Then the guy decided to keep doing it.  I don’t know if he was hoping for more laughs, or to talk to Kevin Hart again but this time he got put in his place.  Kevin Hart addressed the guy in a way that let him know his moment had passed.  He did it in such a funny way that he had everyone laughing at him.  Did the guy get the message?  Yes, he no longer loudly said "ahhhh."

All in all it was a great night.  His movie, "Laugh at my Pain" will be coming to AMC theatres on September 9th.  I definitely want to see this!

Breaking Bad – Season 4 Episode 1: Box Cutters- Recap

Warning: There are spoilers!

It’s been a long time coming, over a year since the last episode of Breaking Bad left you in suspense.  I know it was killing me to wait this long to see it and I must say it was still worth the wait.  The new season picks up where the last one left off.  It flashes back to Gale in the lab getting a lot of new equipment.  He is poised to take over as head cook as Gus is set to kill Walt and Jesse.  Gale is insecure in his cooking abilities, guaranteeing 96% quality while holding up a sample that he say’s is 99% pure.  Breaking Bad Gus assures Gale that this is okay.  If I remember correctly that last sample is Jesse’s sample.  One he cooked himself as he tried to get his job back and in Walt’s good graces again.

So the big question.  Did Jesse pull the trigger and kill Gale?  The answer is yes.  Gale lies dead being the first time Jesse actually kills someone in the series.  The shock of what he has just done overcomes Jesse.  He is silent for most of the show dealing with what he had just done.  It is a powerful episode for Jesse ( Aaron Paul ) in that he conveys a lot with his silence.  To me it was some of his best acting as its hard to convey such strong emotion with little words.  Gus is also silent for most of this episode.  Like Jesse he conveys a lot with his non verbal acting.  You can see the anger he has and when it is unleashed it is all the more shocking coming from such a mild mannered character.

The season opener had a lot of suspense as you are waiting to find out Walt and Jesse’s fate.  It was a great episode that left me wanting more.

Interesting items in Japan – Part1

These are just a few of the random and odd products I found around my wanderings in Japan.  Some are not really that odd or random and some are just pretty damn awesome. A lot of the stuff I found I just happened across grocery stores or random stores at the malls.

So what follows is a collection of awesome.

This product to my right I thought was candy or some mad scientist kit.  I was wrong on both counts, it was actually a thing for children’s bubble bath.  I was amazed at how wrong I could really be.

I guess that’s a look of sheer horror on his face?  The thought of being clean just scares the shit out of him!  Look at him!

Cubic MouthI loved this trend in Japan called “Cubic mouth.”  They make a lot of cartoon characters in cubic form with cubic mouths.  I found them hilarious, my daughter found them scary!  These are just a few socks I found at a store with such Disney characters in cubic form.  They crack me up!  I had to buy a pair for my nephews…I bought them chip and dale.  Here is why:  Drunk?

I am not %100 positive on this but I am pretty damn sure that Dale is hung over.  Look at him?  If he’s not hung over then he is really messed up!  My nephews didn’t find these as hilarious as I did but my brother did and cracked the hell up!  Worth buying the socks!  I saw lots of Minnie mouse purses around town in this “cubic” style that my daughter refused to let me buy for her.  They scared her she said!

Awesome book or just awesome photo jacket?During my wanderings I came upon a few bookstores.  I went into a few and found some cool looking books.  Unfortunately I can’t read Japanese so it saddened me.  The comic book stores were awesome looking to. Here is just one of a few books that had an English translation of the title.  But that was it.  I would of bought it but I know it would of taken me years to read the front cover.  One day…..I will learn.

I found some awesome shirts while in Japan.  This one of Pedo bear giving it to Ronald McDonald I found hilarious.

Again, I wish I knew how to read so I could read the caption above.  So for now I’m making up my own.  They also had a few awesome-kick ass star wars shirts.

These kinds of shirts are also very popular in Japan.  I ended up buying a few shirts as gifts to some family friends.  These star wars kids pictures were all kinds of awesome.  I was hoping to see more star wars shirts and was not disappointed.  Saw tons of them.  The baby series I thought were funny.

Okay going to add just one more item here and the rest I’ll save for another article for another time.

This was a unique store that sold nothing but miniature food items.  The purpose was to sell these to restaurants for the purpose of displaying foods in there windows.  I liked how they made these chopsticks float in air suspended by the noodles.  It was weird to see people buying these as souvenirs and to have restaurant people buying them to display in there windows as representations of food at their respective restaurants.

Food in Japan – The good stuff!

Ah yeah, it was all about the food!  And we saw some interesting food and ate some great food in Japan.  First Meal in Restaruant
The first meal we had in Japan was at a restaurant.  I forgot the name of the dish but it was very tasty!  It was pork with some veggies, rice, and miso soup.  I’m probably spelling "miso" wrong.  We arrived for lunch and had to take off our shoes.  We placed them in lockers and proceeded to our seats which were on the floor.  The restaurant was very cool and the food was delicious.  Of course, walking around town and shopping we also noticed a lot of unique food items.

I spent a lot of my time in Japan trying to find some wierd food items I had heard about.  One such item was the kit kat candy bar.
Cheese Kit Kat?I had heard that they have upwards of 50 different flavors of KitKat in Japan.  It was confirmed to me by our hosts that there are indeed a large variety and different kinds of them floating around depending on the season and holiday.  The second night there I found my first such case.  Petit Cheese KitKat!  It was actually white chocolate covering some cheese…..and I bought it….and I ate it, and it was DELICIOUS!  I continued to hunt but was really hard to find other flavors.  I saw the cheese one a few more times and finally encountered some other flavors.

Orange and StrawberryLater that week I found one such store that had two other unique flavors of KitKat!  Orange and strawberry KitKats!  I bought them on the spot and of course devoured them!  Once again, they were delicious!  I favored the orange one overall and regretted not getting another batch.

I was considering buying some to take back home to America but I know I would of just ate them anyways so I was saving myself from myself and figured the pictures would have to do.  I also wondered why the hell is KitKat being so stingy here?  Why can’t we get orange or strawberry KitKats!?

What will follow are a few shots now of other unique candy’s I saw and found:

Oreo Coffee!!

Crunk's not dead!

Okay so now a brief explanation….first I have no idea how to explain the cream collon.  I didn’t buy it or try it but not because of the name.  Or maybe it was because of the name….

The oreo coffee thing I did buy and try and I enjoyed it.  Who doesnt love oreo’s?  It was pretty much like the starbucks Via thing and tasted delicious.  Under that was strawberry crunch…..again why doesn’t Crunch have this in America?  Again it was delicious!!!! And last but not least was Crunky Kids!  I thought Crunk was dead…apparently I was wrong.

This isent even close to all the food pictures I got but I figure I could cover ramen in its own article.  But I will have to post two more pictures here.

Pepsi???Apparently in Japan depending on the holiday, Pepsi will release a unique flavor drink.  Since it was Christmas and New Years coming up we got to taste Pepsi – Mont Blanc!

Apparently this is similar to a roasted chestnut.  It tasted however similar to a caffienated coffee drink.  It was definately unique and I will admit I bought it again later on and took one home to give to a gift to a good friend.  Pepsi as a gift?  Yes, he has the pepsi logo tattooed on him.  So yes, it was an awesome gift for him.  Oh, side note, I also found Pepsi Twist in Japan!  It’s still alive down there!

The vending machine is not all that interesting till you take a closer look at them.  The blue under the items in question represent cold drinks, while the red represented warm drinks.  Also, some of those in the red are not actually drinks but rather soup.  I have bought corn chowder, potato soup, and tomato soup from vending machines while I also bought a cold coke or pepsi from the same vending machine.

Okay, thats going to do it for this article I think.  I’ll still be posting a few articles in the next few days to talk about some of the sights and sounds and buildings in Japan.

Hope you all enjoyed it!!
